Until Uru / Uru Live - News

Here is some interesting news about the game Uru Live : Uru Live was supposed to become the massive multiplayer online version of Myst. The developers created a so called “neighbourhood” in which players can meet up and agree to help each other with puzzles in the game world. Sadly Cyan Worlds was unable to complete the game due to a lack of funding. They insisted most of the game was done but their investor was not willing to continue investing. Uru, Ages Beyond Myst shipped with the ability to play online, but with no servers being available that feature was useless. Some dedicated fans and Cyan Worlds themselves were able to get one server online. And it appears Uru Live could just be released this year as they got new financial backing for their project.

Basically, you start with the original Uru, Ages Beyond Myst and then download and install a free patch from the above web site. This turns Uru back into a server based game just like it was intended. However, you must get an invitation to be able to join the server (See the FAQ for details). You must play the whole game again, but this time you can invite others to join you.

This is not a new game. It is just the old game quickly patched up just enough to be playable. It is not the Phoenix rising from the ashes. It is the the body parts from dead projects being reanimated via unholy science. But it is cool.

The FAQ will tell you that nothing has changed from the Uru Live beta, but that is not quite true. A new area of Gahreesen has opened up and is quite fun. Also, there are quite a few entertaining bugs to be found (all of which have been promised not to be fixed. All the work is going into Uru Live. Nothing will be done to fix Until Uru.).

Take a look at the screenshots. The worlds are gorgeous, as we would expect from Cyan Worlds. But do you see Zandi standing through his chair holding the book with his… erm… I mean the book is just floating there all by itself.

There is a place where you can walk up a rope and stand on the top of a tent.
